January 2002-
Well, it's the start of my second semester here at WSU, and so far...it's a busy one. Physics is kicking me in the butt, however, I'm actually doing the work (even if it's done wrong!). As far as other classes go, things will be just fine. I love the architecture...I love it!
The Spring Drumline is getting under way, and I'm really looking forward to the show we will be putting together. It's going to be a latin show where I will be on snare and I'll be doing a Conga solo feature (thanks Tony!).
I'm in the process of designing a mural that I will get the opportunity to paint in the main stair case outside the hallway. I'm really trying to give it a look that an architect did it, but also let it feel like an artist was looking over his shoulder. It's been fun...
I'll update this as soon as new shtuff comes my way!
March 2002-
Well well well. I've updated the page thanks to the constant peckings from my brother. You'll find the grip of new pictures and you'll also be able to finally see what my wonderful Katie looks like! I have to thank Mark from down the hall for letting me use his scanner and computer to do this! It's saved so much time!
Well, the d-line is still working hard. The first movement is almost memorized, and we perform it in a few weeks here. I bought some new bongos for cheap, and they are pretty decent! They are fun to beat up...I miss you matty!
Physics sucks a lot. But as my mom says, "only 3 more months to go for us!" I am doing really well in Architecture. A's across the boards so far. I'm just working my little butt off in all the classes that I'm doing and all the stuff I'm doing outside of that!
I've just been hired as the Pullman under 12 boys soccer coach. That will be so fun! I'm also waiting for the final paper work to pass for the mural project. I wanted to have that finished by Spring Break, but that's not happening I think...I'm just looking forward to visit my little brother during my spring break! We are going to do a little "Smith brother reunion" concert at St. Olaf. Then, he's flying back with me on his spring break to check out my new life here in Washington. I'm totally pumped for that!
Well, that's all for the first half of the semester. Again, stay tuned for more info., and I'll keep you posted. -Erik
April 2002-
Well, well, well. I'm alive. Barely. The week before spring break, Soccer practices started up. The kids are so awsome. It's been totaly awsome to play around with them and teach them the ropes in the sport I love. I also had a ton to accomplish in architecture before break, but didn't get all that I wanted finished, so, with the help of my brother, and very VERY little sleep, I'm proud to say that I got yet another flawless 'A' on my project. Katie and I decided to split up and just maintain the wonderful friendship that we have established thus far. I'm glad that we both could come to a pleasant conclusion, and I look forward to be a part of her life as a close friend. We both still have so much to teach each other...
Spring break was a doozy. I spent a day in Northfield w/ my bro and then drove up to Concordia in Fargo/Moorhead to visit the old school mates. After driving into a ditch on I29, I spent some time in Omaha and visited the 4th grade class that I have been doing a little pen pal thing with. It was way fun! The rest of the week, I spent back in Northfield MN with my twin and my best friend. It was awsome, and the gig we played rocked the house at Hogan Brothers.
Well, life goes on as usual. Only 2 months left of school, and too much to accomplish before then. God Bless.
May 30, 2002-
Well, I'm official on Summer break now. To be honest, school needed to be over. There are a lot of things I learned this past year, and I hope to improve on them as the next one comes!
I am now working full time with Vandervert Construction company here in Spo-Compton. I'm making $10/hr. so that's tizzle! I'm also getting motivated to design and build my first drafting desk this summer. I hope that I can get some good ideas down and start to building.
Last weekend was my cousin Lexi's Wedding, so I had a chance to get into Omaha and see old familiar faces, and goof around with my siblings. I miss them more than they know, but I will always see them again!
As for summer plans, I'm working, and I'm going to take a little trip with Paul and Kerri sometime in July. My mom is going to be coming up here next month, and I turn 21 in 2 days! How stoked am I?...I miss you, matty!
Well, that be all for now. Hell week starts on the 18th of August, so I can' expect to get back to school then. I hope you all have great summers, and I'll see you when I see you!
September 2002
So, hell. I'm back in the hood I like to call Wazzu. I'm now living in a house on Howard Street with 4 other peeps. They are great roomies. It's a 180 degree turn around from the shit I had to deal with last semester!
The drumline has started off well this season. Hell week was pretty brutal, but mostly because we have 80% freshman on the line this year (only 4 returners!). We played a show in Seattle in the new Seahawks Stadium. It was awsome!
As far as classes for this semester, Arch history, Arch materials and construction, Arch studio, Sociology, and Geology aka rocks for jocks! I just did awsome on my first arch hist. test today. I'm pretty stoked aboot it. But, life goes on
I miss my siblings, but random phone calls close those miles. When Christmas time rolls around...IT'S ON!
November 2002,
Well, October has come and gone in whirlwind of stress. Although, I have managed to stay calm while getting projects and tests crammed in my face. I'm thankful for all that has happened, though. Life has been blessing me as of late.
I met a new girl. Her name is Katie. Yes, I know...I've already dated a Katie. Ya know...it's something about that name I guess! Bottom line, I've never been happier in all my life. My mom says that I fall in love so easily. To be honest, I dissagree. The fact is, nothing could prepare me for this new feeling I have toward Katie. I guess God works in mysterious ways. He has a plan, and to be honest, I'm really starting to like it! If you want to know more about Katie, call me or email me. I could talk/write for days....
The drumline just finished the Dad's weekend show where yours truly played in the pit that I helped put together for this show. It really came off well! Katie purchased 2 tickets to go see Dana Carvy later on that night for our one-month. It was fricken' great! Very funny show!
I'm now taking CAD for studio. I've been working on an Urban Park Renewal project. It's been okay. I'm just wanting to go to Omaha. I miss my family. Matty is going to come up here for the Apple Cup! I'm pumped for him to see an actual Pac 10 game, especially the No. 1 team! He gets to see his big bro in action!
All in all, life goes on. Keep on visiting the site and tell me what you think!
January 2003
It's official. I've been running this site for an entire year now, and I'm still goin! I hope that you all have enjoyed things so far. I plan on updating the drumline web page for WSU, and Matt Culp is going to design a web page specifically for my music stuff! If you all want to check that out, it will be a link in my "go dere" page soon enough...
As for December, I was pretty dang busy. I finished out the semester...okay...And I'm ready to finish my second year here at school. I spent my break over Christmas back on Omaha. It was very nice to be with the family for the time I was home. I had to leave for about a week while I joined the drumline, band, and football team at the ROSE BOWL BABY! It was one of the most memorable experiences of my life...and yes, I got most of it on video!
This semester consists of work, Arch studio, theory, psych, Calc, and percussion ensemble. I'm also going to be coaching again this season. I have yet to hear back from Rich aboot that...
As for Katie and I...there is nothing that pleases me more than to know that she exsists on this planet. She is my everything. We have decided that we will be living together in an appartment next year to save on money, and to make our lives easier. The crazy thing is that it doesn't seem weird to move in together! It's actually very exciting!
Well, off to the architecture building. I hope everyone who reads this is having good fortunes in life. I love you all! Keep watching out for new stuff! -Erik
April '03
Crap. I havn't updated since January. Cwayzy. Well, here's the skinny...
I've finished 3 projects now in Arch, and I'm on my final that's due in about 2 weeks. We will be presenting these projects in Seattle at a professional firm, so that's going to be really scary! Looks like I'll just have to open up a can a whoop ass on the project!
I've also been coaching again. We just lost our first game of the season in Wenatchee. That's alright. We still managed to keep our heads, and played our hearts out.
Katie and I have gotten our appartment for next year. It's great to have that finished finally. The summer will bring in some good cash flow to be able to use next year. I'm looking forward to it! Mom's weekend is coming up and we have tickets to see Wayne Brady from "Whos line is it anyway." That will be a lot of fun. Mostly, the rest of the semester is a race to the finishe as far as accomplishing things that need to be done, and doing well at them. I think that my grades are going to improve this semester! Not a bad way to leave the program for a while.
The Percussion ensemble performed its concert on April fool's day. We did 4 pieces, in which I was in all 4. It went very well-even after I broke a drum head in the first song! It really didn't deter us from the performance, and kinda added another fun part! My grandparents came, too, along with my great aunt and her husband. They really had a great time. They'd never seen anything like that!
Hope y'all enjoy the new snap shots. It's not much, but when I finally get my own digital cam, we'll be able to put a lot more on there! In the mean time, take care, and we'll see you around!
-Erik
